Tasting Notes For Belle Glos Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020The Spanish term ‘Las Alturas’ means ‘the heights’, a fitting name for this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine bearing all the hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full-bodied and balanced by a firm acidity.Deep garnet in color with an aromatic medley of black cherry, marionberry, ripe plum and a hint of anise. Dark fruit on the palate with flavors of wild berries, caramelized oak and cacao nibs complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, cedar and a hint of lavender and forest floor. Rich and unrestrained, this wine’s abundant fruit is beautifully balanced by firm acidity and layers of red and black fruit.Critic RatingsWine Spectator Review - Issue Apr 30, 2022 – Rated 91:Ripe and decadently spiced, with concentrated kirsch, dark plum and cola flavors that are well-knit. The plush, creamy finish packs Asian spice notes. Drink now through 2025. 9,885 cases made. — KMWine Enthusiast Review - Published 4/1/2022 – Rated 90:This is an extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir, showing kirsch, cola, root beer and anise on the nose. The powerful extraction extends to the sip as well, where black cherry, pie crust and vanilla bean flavors sit atop a thick mouthfeel, with a touch of prune on the finish.
